Are there any issues with installing Ubuntu on a laptop that has vista?

If anyone has any suggestions on the install, my laptop is a Toshiba Satellite, A205-S5859.

Hello Nadarm,

Some readings for reference

As for release issues ... here is the link for the release notes

May I suggest you download and burn the version of your choosing ... then try out the liveCD to see how it reacts to your system specs. From that experience, you may decide how to proceed.

Lastly, do read the stickies on the sub-forums as they can provide you with hints and tips.

Once again, the best indicator will be trying the liveCD.

Good luck and happy ubuntu-ing.

Personally Virtualbox is probably the easiest way to go and still have a fully installed Ubuntu.

Wubi sucks so don't use that.

If you used Virtualbox you could add other operating systems a lot easier in the future also.

Virtualbox 3.0 is the newest version and has many unique features to make virtualizing an OS on any machine a walk in the park.

Dual booting will be a thing of the past when everyone embrases virtualization.

Laptops are famous for customized hardware and drivers. Before you install any Linux version on it, boot from a LiveCD to see how well the distro you want to use recognizes the hardware and installs the proper drivers. Anything that doesn't work automatically is going to range from a simple post-install fix to impossible, depending on the specific hardware.

It would also be useful for you to search for your laptop model in the laptop subforum to see if others have tried installing on the same machine.
