I have installed 9.04 on a seperate 500 GB HDD and mad one of the home folders as a data drive to store movies. Now there are some issues with the 9.04 and i want to reinstall it all over again. Will i loose amy data(nearly 300 gig) if reinstall? is there somehow i can make a seperate partition on my HDD in ext3 format to store the data which can be manually mounted ....but i cannot move the data temporarily to another location.
any easy way out?

The only partition that needs to be formatted during reinstall is /.

does this mean that if i reinstall normally using the Live CD my data will still be there if ofcourse i do not touch the partition for the movies?

Correct. For that you have to choose the manual install, to tell it to use the data partition and to give it a mount point, but then (CRUCIAL) untick the "format" check box.
