evolution (pop) fetches arbitrary amounts of mail

I have the most unusual problem.

I would like to create a local archive of my gmail.
I've set everything up, both in gmails settings (to allow pop) and on evolution.

When I hit 'send/recieve' on evoltion, it fetches an arbitrary amount of mail. This can be anywhere between about 60 to about 300.

But it will not download all of my mail.

I find this very strange.

Does anyone if evolution can actually fetch all mail from a pop server ?

How can I get all my mail from gmail ?

I know evolution does, but I also have seen this with gmail before. It can act wonky at times, check to make sure your pop settings are right on the gmail site.
