A recent thread got me wondering just how important it is to the community.

yes, because no one lives in an OSS bubble. without some windows compatibility, the ubuntu desktop would become far less useful. when we have the majority in marketshare, then all the competition will worry about compatibility. until then, it's our responsibility.

expect a change in venue to the "recurring discussions" area.

For me : no, not so important.
For most : yes, definitely.

There are some Windows programs that don't have a viable Linux alternative, yet. And honestly, for some, I think that never will be one. A chronic example is AutoCAD, a very specialized piece of software. No CAD solution available on Linux is as good as the real one (or even close!).

Yes. Sometimes I have to work together in the same document with people using Windows.

In a world where most of the people use windows, yes it is.
