Windows serial keys not woking in Ubuntu

I have a game that I run in Windows. I still have it in that and I run Ubuntu as a dual-boot and it was installed with Wubi. This game opens fine with Wine but when it asks for the serial key, the one that works in Windows is said invalid in this one. The key in Windows is saved as a .reg file and it automatically adds to the registry. I opened it with Notepad and got the key and tried it. That's when it said that they key was invalid. I tried several keys from the internet but all of them ended up the same way but they worked fine in Windows.

The fact is that I have not installed it seperately in Ubuntu. I am running it from the Windows installation directory. Is this causing the problem with the key?

I haven't tried installing it using Wine as I am a little short on space.
