View Full Version : [ubuntu] Optimise Ubuntu 9.04

July 1st, 2009, 11:42 AM
I've just installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my laptop and so far I'm really impressed with Ubuntu's ease of use and compatibility.

My laptops specs are:

Compaq Presario CQ70

Pentium Dual Core Processor T3400
(2.1GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 1MB Cache)
2GB Memory
160GB HD

I've enabled dual core ( followed: http://junkypc.com/enable-dual-core-processors-ubuntu/ )
but that's about it. Are there any 'tweaks' that are recommended to boost performance?

I've read up and that 'Concurreny=Shell' is just for the startup of the system (increase in 2.5 seconds approx). However, Ubuntu does use both cores (well, 9.04 anyways) - I know because Conky is showing my core usages.

But hey - maybe Ubuntu will utilise the cores more efficiently? But thanks dude, every little piece of optimisation helps...one shall bookmark this thread for more tips

Look in the Tutorials & Tips subforum.

I've browsed through the first few pages of that sub-forum - but haven't yet found any optimisation threads...found many How To's though.

One shall keep looking.
