fixed! found another thread describing the commands needed to restart the update process
i was running the update on my laptop today from intrepid to jaunty
part way through - i believe it was installing packages - my computer decided to turn itself off. i've been having some issues with heat recently and i think the bios pulled the plug to prevent heat stroke.
now, when i boot up, i get what i imagine is the new login splash, i can log in, but i just get a plain background (same colour as i had in intrepid). i can bring up a terminal using super-T
any suggestions? is this something that can be repaired or am i looking at backing up everything via terminal and starting from scratch?
