Hello guys, I've just got my new aDSL line here in Catalonia, a company called Jazztel which is one of the first one using the G.992.5 Annex M technology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITU_G.992.5_Annex_M).

This technology allows me to increase the upload or download speed by using bigger frequencies, the theorical contracted speed in my case is: 20mbps down and 1mbps up.

My router synchronize at: 18.304kbps download and 890kbps upload
This, without enabling the Annex M technology (which has to be enabled using a control panel)

I have to modes, Turbo up, and Turbo down.

Enabling the Turbo up my router synchronizes:
Download: 17.151 Upload: 2.229

This allows me to seed torrents at more than 200KBps

Enabling the turbo download I get almost 23.000kbps download and 1.100kbps upload.

I pay 29€ a month for this connection with an unlimited data plan.

Anybody else is using this technology?

Where I used to live, I had a maximum of 100mbps download and 10mbps upload. Of course I never got speeds anywhere close to that in reality. But at least I got upwards of 60mbps down and 8mbps up.

Never heard of that Annex M technology though. What's so special about it?

Some ISPs offer AnnexM on their ADSL2+ plans in Australia, eg

http://www.internode.on.net/support/faq/broadband_adsl/adsl2_annex_m/
http://www.iinet.net.au/business/broadband/annexm.html

I don't use it myself, because my exchange is not enabled, but probably would if I could.

@Nevon. Your connection would not have been xDSL of any description. AnnexM is an xDSL technology to significantly increase upload speeds (from 1Mb/s to around 2Mb/s)

Well no. The fastest ADSL connection I've seen around here is 24mbps. I don't know, but I think that's shared between the upload and download.

Well, yes. I think you have misunderstood. ADSL2+ has a maximum of 24Mbps download, and with AnnexM, up to 2 or 3 Mbps upload.

See for yourself (in addition to the 2 links I have already posted);

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adsl2%2B#Technical_information

The data rates can be as high as 24 Mbit/s downstream and 1.4 Mbit/s upstream depending on the distance from the DSLAM to the customer's home.

The data rates can be as high as 12 or 24 Mbit/s downstream and 3.5 Mbit/s upstream depending on the distance from the DSLAM to the customer's home.

Clear now?

Clear now?

Crystal clear. That's pretty sweet. A potential doubling of the upload speed.

It is indeed. :) Some ISPs here give you AnnexM for free on certain plans, but mostly you have to be on "business" type plans with static IPs and so on. But, if you need the extra upload speed (web developers, telecommuters etc), it's great. \\:D/

Here in Barcelona, Jazztel is offering Annex M for free to all it's costumers.

Hey, what's the Annex-M status in Australia now? Did they finally released for regular customers?

Sorry I've just read your links... Looks like is available already.

I'm retaking this topic again to ask, if Annex M could be enabled in VDSL2 connections.

As far as I know, fastpath technology can be enabled in VDSL2, but it decreases the speed to a normal asymmetric DSL, with better pings.

But,
How about Annex M?
