I'm a total Linux newbie. I attempted to load 9.04 onto my old Inspiron 2600. I burned the .iso at 4x. When attempting to load it, the Ubuntu logo came up then immediately went to a blank screen with a flashing cursor. I tried the safe boot option with F4 but still same problem. Then tried loading alternate 9.04 with acpi=off. Very fuzzy image but muddled my way thru the installation. Now when I boot up, I get the Ubuntu logo with the little progress bar below it. After a few moments, the the screen looks almost like a purple star-burst then transitions to dark gray with about eight thin horizontal lines about 1 inch apart.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
