View Full Version : [gnome] ALSA sound works for system sounds, nothing else

After grappling with the sound drivers and settings on my system for a few days, I've made a little progress. I just compiled the latest ALSA driver from scratch. Now system sounds, such as startup or IM notifications, work fine. Unfortunately no other sounds work at all. It's frustrating because this is the first time I've been able to play sound on my computer in days - and I can see that I got something right, just not completely. Does anyone know how this happened, or how I can fix it so audio works across the whole system? Thanks.

(If it helps, I'm using gOS on an Acer Aspire One with a 82801G sound card. I turned all of the playback channels in alsamixer up to maximum. My module config files are an utter mess because I've been adding lines that wikis, blogs, etc told me to. It shouldn't be so difficult to achieve something so basic should it? I've got a good insight into why Linux isn't ready for the casual user just yet...)
