Has anybody tried this and have anything good or bad to say about it?

I donno...Why would I want that service? The updates that are applied now ask for restarts very rarely. I don't mind doing that. Might be a good idea for servers though...

I could see it for servers, but I really dont mind a reboot. It takes my computer a total of 3 minutes, so I wouldn't have a use for this myself.

I don't mind the occasional reboot with Ubuntu, since I dual-boot.

It takes about 2 mins to restart my machine and it is only really kernel updates that require a restart. So unless you are running a mission critical server, I can't really see a need for this.

Why would you want never to turn off your pc? Besides a server that is.

I've noticed in Linux-related newsgroups on Usenet, some folk engage in a kind of duck-measuring competiton printing their uptime in their sigs. I guess that's one use for this utility. Though if you thought you could impress the gurleez by exhibiting a huge uptime in your sig, you could just lie and claim your machine's been on since just after the big bang or summat...

+1. Turning it off at night has also got to extend the life of your PC.

+1 to shutting down PC's when they are not in use. All I see when I see huge uptimes in signatures, is an irresponsible, wanton waste of energy and resources.

Moreover, a wanton waste of one's money.

Seems interesting but I dunno if I am willing to trust some third party software touching my kernel and messing with my updates.

I don't run Ubuntu on my server. I run Debian Lenny.

The best way I find for not rebooting it is to not reboot it, actually. That seems to work exceptionally well, and in fact does not even require any specialized software to be installed.
