I have recently installed Ubuntu on a more low end machine that has been used primarily for scanning for and removing viruses form winblows machines, however i am finding it difficult to wine windows virus scanners using linux is there anything else i could use that is as good or better than windows scanners that runs natively on ubuntu and will scan windows hard disk for viruses and remove them?

You could use ClamAV: http://www.clamav.net/
Alternatively, AVG for Linux can be found here: http://free.avg.com/download

I have used the first, but can't comment on the second.

ClamTK is the graphical front end to ClamAV.
