after a couple of months of checking out the forum i decided to just post, seems how every time i think ive diagnosed my problem correct i just dont get better results with anything. I first installed 8.10 3-4 months ago with the disk i got in the mail.Not being to fimiliar with linux at all i allowed some updates every now and then.......then came jaunty and i decided to install it ..right away i lost my s-video out which happened to be my main monitor. now using another monitor i reinstalled 8.10 and still have no s-video option and everything still feels as slow as jaunty did......so any suggestions, i would just like to have 8.10 how it was when i first installed. thanks

Usually, with major updates (kernel / OS) the drivers on your system would therefore be configured for the earlier kernel.

To fix, I can think of two options (I'm a noob btw):

Reinstall all the drivers, compiling them with your new kernel;
Backup your files (go to grub menu > netroot > login > backup). Then install Ubuntu 9.04 skipping 8.10.
