i have installed the kde libarys (the ones that come when you install amarok and yakuake) does this mean that i can use kde as a desktop enviroment

I don't think so, to do that you wouuld most like need to run "sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop" or apt://kubuntu-desktop click that link, which will install kde along side gnome.

no, the KDE apps come with QT librarries, not KDE

QT is the toolkit for all the KDE apps (like GTK is for Gnome)
to use KDE you need Kubuntu-desktop


sudo apt-get kubuntu-desktop
