Why is it so freaking funny to see people trip or get the crap scared out of them. Funniest and most extreme shows dominate broadcast. It was even a big draw to see a hanging for most of human history. Why is that. Do not get me wrong. I LMAO when some idiot bends over behind a horse and then get bucked off camera. But why the hell is it funny.

I think it's hardwired in most people to have a fascination with the misfortunes of others. With the less harmful things like watching people trip or otherwise make fools of themselves on TV, I would guess that subconsciously it makes us feel like we are smarter/more graceful than others.
