View Full Version : [ubuntu] booting linux on laptop

hi guys im a total newbie on linux installed ubuntu on my machine im pretty pleased to see anything besides a windows OS... n e way i have a laptop that i want to install ubuntu first of all it does not boot up on xp the installation comes to a certain point and it freezez so i really want to eliminate xp (excuse the speling)...so i want to boot linux on the laptop that is in the process of a windows xp installation that fails at a certain point .... can any one give me advice on booting linux my laptop with a flash because it has no floppy drive and no dvd-rom....but i have a flash the laptop is a hpomnibook xt6200 nt sure how old it is about more than 5 years old thou....i have a sahara 4gig stick and apparently it does support booting from a flash. can n e 1 assist?:confused::confused:

From what I understand, you want to boot Ubuntu from a usb flash memory.

It should be mentioned that not every older PC allows booting from USB, which may be solved by upgrading the BIOS. Do check boot options in the BIOS first.
