We Are Ubuntu
What is Ubuntu?
Ubuntu: [ubu ntu] n. S African. humanity or fellow feeling; kindness.
Trans: "I am what I am because of who we all are"
"Ubuntu is the essence of being human. I am human because I belong, and my humanity is bound to yours."
Archbishop Desmond Tutu
Ubuntu binds together many sub-Saharan societies. It’s a give-and-take concept where everyone depends on everyone else; it links everyone and everything is shared. Nobody is left wanting.
Hear Nelson Mandela talking about Ubuntu (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=l-RUPwl5edA)
We are Ubuntu
Our idea is to base our company on the concept of Ubuntu – each person participates so that each benefits. We want to make Fairtrade accessible to more people: our delicious refreshing soft drinks will enable more people to join in the Fairtrade movement and support the African communities where the ingredients are grown.
And that’s not all. Each year we’ll give at least 15% of our company’s profits to the Ubuntu Africa Program. Ubuntu is all about sharing and we passionately believe in sharing our success with the people who are the very soul of the company: the farmers and their families growing the sugar cane, and the people of Malawi.
The money will be used to:
Support the sugar producers and their communities
Encourage projects showing real entrepreneurship and creative ways to tackle poverty
