Kernel Mode Setting is a new feature that will be available in Karmic, KMS can be enabled in Jaunty also here is the wiki on how to: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/KernelModeSetting

I am running Karmic and use KMS on Dell XPS1330 with Intel i945 graphics card, my experience so far has been pretty good. My laptop suspends and resumes FAST!

If you have tried KMS, I would like to know what your experience is wrt to KMS on Karmic/Jaunty. Please participate in the poll.

I am running Jaunty with the Karmic 2.6.30-10.12 kernel with Intel GM965 graphics card. Mine is the Acer Aspire 5920

KMS works well as long as do not include vga=xxx in the kernel boot options
That problem is mentioned here as well:
http://wiki.debian.org/KernelModesetting

Apart from that KMS works great, Suspend and Resume is fine as well !
