Wikipedia Gets Ready for a Video Upgrade

The online encyclopedia is poised to let users find, edit, and embed clips.

The organization behind Wikipedia is close to launching an editable online video encyclopedia to enhance the current textual one. Seeing as they're going to be using the Ogg Theora format, I hope its prevalence encourages others to use similarly open formats.

I hope its prevalence also encourages further Theora development.

I love how things are rolling for OGG lately. Soon, Apple and Microsoft will have no choice but to bite the bullet and acknowledge it exists :)

I've started seeing videos on my random Wikipedia visits recently. For instance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orangutan#Conservation_status

It's pretty cool that Firefox 3.5 has built-in support for the OGG videos.
