Hi there I am a noob just signed up today. In the past I have tried to install Ubuntu
on a few P4 2.0 GHZ 512 MB RAB Intel and HP mother boards and never could get it to install. I tried looking in the BIOS but didn't really know what to look for. Any ideas?

None it never made it to the screen where you select time zone, user, password or anything.. I tried different cd roms and even burnt a new install disc.

Try to run memtest, it is first on ubuntu install disk. Just to eliminate some hardware problems.

I had before one computer, freezing on ubuntu but windows was running for fow hours then become unstable. It fail on memtest because not fully compatible RAM.

You can try the alternate installer:

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloadmirrors#alternate

Just be sure to checksum the downloaded iso and burn to disc as an image at a slow speed (approx. 4x).
