Hi

Since I-don't-know-when (read: some ubuntu releases back) I have a situation in my laptop where some icons are broken. Broken = icons are replaced by a default placeholder (a black square with folded corner or in Evolution a red X sybol).

Applications involved: power manager panel item, fastuser switcher panel item, evolution, Copmys Settings manager, file roller. I have not noticed issues on other applications.

I have searched the forum and found some similar issue reports but recomended solutions have not helped me.

I noticed some point (with previous ubuntu reales, currently running the latest version) that the icon of fast user switcher panel item appeared for some seconds until (it seemed so) the network manager panel item appeared on the panel. Don't know it this helps.

My question is... is there something to reinstall or purge or delete to get all the icons back for the system? Any ideas and I am glad to try them.

Heiko

There is a guide here it was for Dapper Drake 6.06 but may
help you take a look at it here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=225390)

Run through the howto but as it deals only with .desktop files... I am not sure this would help me. For panel applets maybe - but certainly not for Compiz Settings Manager or for Evolution. Maybe You could explain the idea of why to hack with desktop files when applications have broken icons inside the application at runtime. Thanks for the hint but for my problem there is nothing I could try out with this howto.
