Found this comp that I'm using in the trash behind work -- IBM NetVista with 2.4 GHZ 1GB RAM. It had Windows 2000 on it, but I took it home and cleaned it up and put it back together and installed Ubuntu on it, since I wasn't all that sure I wanted to put it on the computer I already had. Took me all day to figure out how to set up the windows drivers for the wireless card, but finally I'm online with it and it's updating like Jaunty like hell and I'm just happy. God, how many trips from my Mac with files .debs saved on my digital camera I made to get this far LOL YAY!!!!

Sorry, had to sound off on this someplace ;D

Ubuntu is too bloated, put arch on it. :shifty:

EDIT - The heck we don't have a shifty face smile for?

Glad you made it with the wifi!

Not a bad spec for a trash recovery computer.

"As a discussion on Ubuntuforums gets longer the probability of someone mentioning arch is raised to 1"

Well it's a lot cheaper to maintain than my other computer and my mac, so it's my new day to day computer. One I get EverQuest running, I'm done with Windows.

LOL @ some of the replies. :D

This is why commas are important.

The things that people will throw away is amazing sometimes.

Most recently I've gotten a computer desk, and a TV stand for a big screen dlp style TV, which was perfect for my TV.

Not bad? It's much better than mine.

*wonders how I got subscribed to this thread*

Anyways, That computer beats my computer to shreds (mine would have been a dumpster bomb, too, but the company that pitched it slipped some to the employees (I have a family member who works there).

I despratly want to get a new computer. (wish dumpster-diving was legal im Minnesota).

Nice find.

Back in..Oooh... Around 1991 my brother found two 750Mb SCSI hard drives in his companies skip.

He asked if could claim them and was told he could. Taking them home he found just a few bad sectors on them.

Sold them for over £1000 each !!

Lol, Good job saving that computer from the trash.

I also work on a "once trashed" computer at this moment.

description: CPU
product: AMD Athlon(tm) Processor
vendor: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD]
physical id: 4
bus info: cpu@0
version: 6.6.2
slot: Socket-A
size: 1250MHz
capacity: 3GHz
width: 32 bits
clock: 100MHz

People throw lot's of good things in the trash,
Thats how I also found my microwave,my refrigerator, my flatscreen tv /monitor (I don't watch tv) and this computer.

All just needed a new fuse.
