Using any of the desktop environments available in Ubuntu, is it possible to configure the system so that when I install packages, no entry is added to the menu by default? The purpose of doing so would be, as the title says, to minimize menu clutter.

Failing that, is it possible to configure, say, GNOME to only show GNOME applications (and not KDE or Xfce apps) in its menu, and vice versa for the other DEs?

Thanks!
