I am running 2x nvidia 8800's with sli but I'm not sure it is working. It has one gpu assigned to my flat panel and the other is assigned to a screen that doesn't exist and hasn't existed. The name of the phantom screen is CRT-0.

I tried to disable it but it is still there when I restart the gdm. I also tried saving to "X Configuration File" but I get the error that it can't remove old X config backup.

I am also getting tearing on windows as I move them around the screen, which should not be happening with the gpu power I have. I am totally lost on how to solve this. Anyone know what might be going on or have some things I should check?

I recently installed my driver via this method http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1125400&highlight=nvidia+185
The recomended xconfig didn't work so I ran xconfig -a. Don't know if that did anything.
