I've seen a bunch of green-tinted avatars on Twitter and I assumed that that was what he was referring to.

I have a disturbed avatar, not a green one. However, I had a splinter cell avatar before that had green in it.

As far as I know, the same is true for me. The recent changes to Facebook seem to be more twitter-like and that's enough for me.

I don't either.Twitter = the disadvantages of IRC + the disadvantages of text messaging + the disadvantages of a disorderly riot.

People change their avatars on Twitter to green to show their solidarity with the Iranian people.

Green is the color of the opposition.

People change their avatars on Twitter to green to show their solidarity with the Iranian people.

Green is the color of the opposition.

Seeing as the quoted post wasn't very informative about the issue, let me tell you what's going on.

In Iran, president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was re-elected, despite heavy opposition. This has led the people of Iran to believe that he has stuffed the ballot boxes. Indeed, the Guardian Council there has found 3 million stuffed ballots in their partial recount, out of the 11 million ballot difference in the "landslide victory". The people of Iran are currently protesting against the government, who is currently refusing to do a re-vote. A few days after the protests started, the Supreme Leader of Iran stated that anymore protests would be illegal, and would be broken up. This then led the government militias, the basiji, to go in and try and break up the crowds. In their attempts to break the crowds, they injured and killed many peaceful demonstrators. This has created martyrs in their movement, and has inspired many citizens to protest. Martyrs are very important in the Shia faction of Islam. Not only that, but basiji have been reported to have beaten old women, and raid people's homes. This has led to much anger about the government, and has led to people shouting, "death to the dictator" in the streets. By the dictator, one can assume they are referring to the Supreme Leader or Ahmadinejad. Now, the protests have shifted from a simple re-vote, to a protest against the current government of Iran.
