I've seen in youtube video's, that Ubuntu is able to have a bar at the bottom of the screen that launches pre-defined applications just like the one found in Mac. I think it's some sort of Beryl skin but I'm unsure on how to get this all working. Any help?

First up, Beryl has not been around since the fork/defork of around August 07. Ubuntu uses *Compiz* as it's compositing window manager.

Now, what you are looking for is probably a dock of some sort. Plenty of threads around, see this one for a little discussion, along with links for how to install;
