I've just recently installed Conky and have it running on my desktop, and I thought it was cool, until I read this post on Lifehacker.

Someone has used as one example of his dektop config, a Halo 3 wallpaper, but the really neat bit is that he is able to interact with various elements of the wallpaper image.

I don't know anything about Rainmeter other than it's a Google app and that it probably runs on Windows only.

Wouldn't it be cool to have something like this on Linux? Check out the links below.

Err.. Rainmeter is NOT an app by Google, if that's what you meant. In fact, it's just another abandonware that happens to have a very active community of skinners and end users. The app was actually abandoned by its creator until a few months ago when a couple of new hands joined on-board to restart development.

yeah I agree with billgoldberg. However, the program itself is very good. I must admit I havent used conky much though.
Its very user friendly and very easy to mod. The is a lot of skins for it that sometimes come with totaly new functions and mostly they look very nice.
Conky on the other hand is a more powerful tool. I havent seen any mail "widget" or "now playing" function available in raimeter. And I guess I still havent explored all of conkys posibilities.

I think what confused Ascenti0n is that rainmeter is downloaded from google code.

Link is my vista desktop with minimal rainmeter configs.
