The gui setup boots but as soon as i select the install ubuntu option and press enter the screen freezes for a second nd then unfreezes but the installation doesn't start. Ive also tried downloading wubi nd running it from windows but nothing happens it doesn't start.

What are your hardware specs? Did you run 'Check CD for defects'?

Checksum your .iso, and if no errors burn at 4x speed or less.

If none of the above suggestions work try booting Live CD with Safe Graphics mode. See here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions
scroll down to the F4 section of that page.

If that doesn't work you may have to use the alternate text based installer. Get that here: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloadmirrors#alternate
