I'd like to install Kubuntu on a laptop having no CD drive (although I'm a long-time Ubunutu user, I'm going to give Kubuntu a thorough trying out). I see lots of information about installing to a flash drive, but I want to install Kubuntu onto my laptop's hard drive along side the existing XP installation. Any ideas?

Here (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick) you go my friend, I've never really done this but it's pretty straight forward I believe.

If you've any trouble don't hesitate to reply again. This process basically creates a bootable image that can be put on any flash USB stick and then booted by the machine. Installation after that is normal. One note, do ensure your bios is capable of booting to USB either by priority or selection before starting.

Good luck.

I used tried this method on my USB external drive and a Flash media for a camera and it worked perfectly.

Thanks much, dudes!

I was able to download an image to my USB stick using UNetbootin and then boot from the stick without much difficulty.
