Dvd rom

I am having trouble with Ubuntu opening DVD in my laptop. VLC reports:


Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///dev/sr0'. Check the log for details.

And no other media player will play, citing similar errors with access. My ROM is playing fine under Windows Vista.

Any help appreciated...

I hate to bump, but I have no idea how to remedy this and Google isn't helping.
