Hi there!
I have an HP laptop dv6385ea and can't find a detailed guide on how to install Ubuntu on it. I found this page (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=528618) on the Forum and printed out the 6th guide: Ubuntu on HP DV6636NR (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=575750) but I don't know whether it will suit my case.
Being a complete beginner I have some concerns regarding the installation process and Ubuntu software repositories.
1. Is there some kind of backup sync application such as SyncToy for Windows?
2. Is the guide I printed out, good for my laptop though the notebook models are different?
3. I downloaded Ubuntu 8.04 but should I go for 9.04 instead? Is Jaunty Jackalope filled with bugs?
4. How much should I shrink Vista in order to make enough space for Ubuntu?
Local disk C: is 94.9 GB free on total 143 GB; HP_Recovery (D:/) is 1.19 free upon 5.15 GB total. I'd like animation effects (Compiz, right?), office and video editing applications, VoIP software (PidGin is optional), Mozilla web Browser and watching DVD/ .avi videos on Ubuntu.
Can you please help me?
