Meh, the game could run on openGL, which qualifies it for Linux. I'm not getting my hopes up. this has been talked about for months, here an article from Novemer 08

Also linux could refer to running the game on a user build Steam server, which will run on Linux.

Being in the middle of the development process in nov 08 and releasing in july 09 sounds a very normal release cycle to me.

That could also be true indeed.

Half-Life also runs on Linux server but there was no notification of Linux in the Half-Life requirements. And on the Steam announcement awhile back that was because of some files that were found. Nothing official. This is real, set in stone requirements.

I doubt it. Especially since most games (that I want to play) use Direct X, and I doubt that Valve is going to take the time to do their own implementation...and if they were going to use Wine, then why even bother with a Linux client.

Probably just what the developer put. Here's the website:

Actually some games from Valve have a DirectX and OpenGL engine ... which you just can switch from settings

They are the games running on the GoldSrc engine.

And I would love to see GoldSrc go Linux

I thought you would actually have evidence. I think this was debunked a long time ago.

Was this just a ploy to get us to visit your blog?

It would be very cool if we could all go out and buy this steam game for Linux, even if its not our regular genre of gaming, just everyone go buy it to show there is a market for Linux games.

Playing the devil's advocate here, but from Valve's perspective the idea of making a native Steam client isn't worth much while. I mean, most linux users (from my experience) have access to at least one copy of Windows which they can probably use to game on their best rig (like me). Not to mention that most gamers run their games on Windows, and it's gonna be that way for the foreseeable future even with traction of Macs and even Linux.

Plus, they seem to have spent all their time the last year working of L4D2, shafting us loyal HL2 users that want their damn episode 3!!!!! *breathing angrily*

Yes, that's a bit of bitterness.

I'll believe it if - and only if - Valve itself anounces it.

Not likely.

Valve is only a short distance from Microsoft, so don't get your hopes up.

No, it was just easier for me to paste a link to the blog instead of pasting the whole entry.

The game actually looks quite interesting. There's a download available but it's probably in beta. Link (http://www.dyson-game.com/read.php?page=8)

Yeah if you look at the requirements for this game on the link you provided, it says nothing about linux.

They DID. But it seems they leaked it early and removed it.

Agreed, I don't think this means anything, they just made a mistake.

I suppose you also think that they simply "made a mistake" when valve accidentally released some files for a native linux steam when Left4Dead came out in november. I'm not sure if it is really here considering they don't even have a native port to OS X which is used more than linux (sadly) but if it is, hell I'm happy!

CharmyBee

Yeah well, Valve have been doing native linux dedicated servers for years. Left4Dead is more akin to listen serving though, which is why it appeared inappropriately.

Nah, that was the mistake of the people jumping the gun when they saw the word client in some Linux server files.

User-submitted news sites like digg makes a lot of silly rumors go around with great exaggeration.

I just remembered how long we were waiting for the Quake Wars Linux client which was declared stuck cause of "middleware issues"

So yeah, when it comes to gaming I believe absolutely nothing until we have the binaries or the code in our hard drives.

EDIT: Correction.

"I've gotta be a bit more careful with what I write in my emails to people evidently Didn't expect to see them all posted up here.

Thanks for the interest anyway guys, we're working hard to get a good game out this summer and you will be able to get hold of it one way or another. And hopefully it won't segfault all over the place like it currently does

For the record the platform listing will be our fault, not Valve's, since we filled out the info for that page.

Cheers

Alex (Dyson dev team)"

So yes, it was a typo.
