I have a new Dell Mini-10, for reasons known only to Dell it has version 8.04 installed on it.
Is there a good chance that an upgrade to 9.04 will work? Has anyone performed the same upgrade?
I usually like to wipe and install new. The reason I ask is I am a bit afraid of losing some stuff installed by Dell, specifically the driver/software for the Elan-Smart Pad. I have an external optical drive that hasn't arrived yet but I suspect that is a non-problem.

I can't see anything else from Dell worth keeping.

Comments please.

You don't have to wait for the optical drive; use something like the USB procedure (htthttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick) to boot a downloaded 9.04 LiveCD image and test how all your hardware does. If you like how the live CD works, then you can install. If you want to use Ext4 as the filesystem, you probably want a fresh install. Note that to get from 8.04 to 9.04 by upgrades you'd first have to upgrade to 8.10 as a waystation.

Did you ever find out if you can install the Elan Smart Pad software in 9.04?
