Hi
I would like to know if it is possible to have a completely barless desktop. So that the main menu would open for example when right-clicking the desktop. I tried searching this and other forums without success.

It sounds like you want fluxbox instead of gnome. I believe it's in the repositories.

Or openbox etc, there are a few. I think there is a program called compiz deskmenu which presumably is bound to compiz and allows a right click menu. A few people in the screenshot thread have been running compiz standalone with it as if it was openbox et al. As you can probably tell , I know nothing about the compiz deskmenu, may be useful for googling though if that's what you're after.
