Hi All,

I was wondering if someone could assist in upgrading from say 8.10 to 9.04. For instance if I have 8.10 installed and have the 9.04 installation CD what is the best procedure to follow.

Keep in mind that in South Africa bandwidth is extremely expensive so one would prefer not to make a mess and have to re-install the software lost if something goes wrong from the repositories.

Appologies if this is a stupid question or have been answred before.

Regards to all and thanks for the replies,

Makatozi

Hello Makatozi,

Do you have a single (ubuntu) boot or are you dual booting with another OS?

The liveCD will give you options whether you wish to use the whole space, use a guided resize or do a manual install. These options will depend on whether you intend to single, or dual, boot.

backup/save any files someplace else. No sense risking losing them.

Some readings for you with regards to installlations.

There is also the option to create a separate /home partition which preserves your settings, teaks, etc, should you decide to re-install or upgrade in the future.

On that link, do read/browse around as it has a lot of valuable info.

Have you read the release notes for , say, 9.04?

Lastly, do try to liveCD first to see how it reacts with your hardware/machine. Also, checvk the compatibility list in the sticky section of this sub-forum.

Post back how you wish to install (single, dual, in a second HD, etc) and what options you wish (all within root, separate /home, etc.) to partake and we can go from there.
