Hello, (first post!) sorry if this should be posted somewhere else.

I'm a very savvy ordinary Windows user who is currently trying to install ubuntu 9.04 on a new machine.
I cannot get past the boot menu from my burned DVD-RW.
The drive spins up for a small amount off time, then stops and nothing happens.
I think i have correctly tried the standard boot parameters and the same thing happens.
Full specs are avaliable on request.
Help please,
Thanks.:p

Have you checked the integrity of the Ubuntu CD by running the verification function that is found on the initial Ubuntu boot screen menu ?

Try burning the ISO image to a CD instead of a DVD. I once read why that is important but don't remember why right now.

Also, make sure you burn as slow as possible, preferrable at 4X or less.

I've never tried using a DVD so can't say for sure. But I read a thread concerning this some time back. One of the people who responded went into great detail about why it made a difference using a CD versus a DVD. I don't remember any of the details, but remembered never to use a DVD to make a live CD.

Something else must be going wrong, because to my knowledge it "should" fit on a 700mb CD. 700mb CD-RWs are all I have and I have never had a problem with it fitting, so far !!!

What is the size as described on the download page/site ?

P.S. - What burner software are you trying to burn with ?

It's 730MB from one of the UK mirrors
Burning with InfraRecorder and CDburnerXP

Something is wrong with the file you downloaded. The file should be just under 700mb. It was designed to fit on a 700mb CD.

Try a different mirror and see if you get a smaller file.
