View Full Version : [kubuntu] "will now halt" when try to shutdown

June 16th, 2009, 12:47 PM
kubuntu 9.04 new installed with encryption option, on fujitsu siemens 64 bit, core 2 duo, when use amarok works a bit slower, when read system description on sreen -beside pulseaudio is red star (all the rest is black and white). When try to shut down "will now halt" info is displayed and absolutely nothing happens; so I press ctrl+alt+del and from login screen I am successfully shutting down, however because of encryption is on, I have to input long password and it takes time. Does anybody know how to solve this problem(to shutdown immediately)? It is my first trial with Kubuntu so please treat me like five years old ;-) Maybe one command could solve that?

I'm not trying to insult your intelligence (as I have made this blunder before myself), but did you install Kubuntu 64 bit edition and not 32 bit?

What happens if you run
sudo shutdown -hP now from a terminal when trying to shut down?
