I was thinking this interesting topic...

what would there be?

my ideas are:

Penguins flying in formation
21 Bash screen salute

I'm not trying to be mean, rude, or disrespectful, just getting ideas how one would pay final respect to a geek like me or any other geek when they pass on.

Be careful getting to the funeral, driver issues might occur on the trip there.

Well, the penguins should be flying a "missing man" formation.

Also, the tombstone should have the # on it, and/or possibly "rm -f {name of decedent}"...

The service needs to be Copylefted, too.

Break Windows CDs with a large hammer.

But... but... those were our only coasters! I mean, they aren't good for anything else.

True. But breaking things with a large hammer is always fun :D.

too true:D, and explosives;).

how about a banner that just says "sudo rm -rf" and on the tombstone it says "respawn in 5...4...3..."

Don't forget to unmount volume first.

May he rest in /dev/null
Have him reduced to hashes, then encrypted in a .jar

A linux geek would donate their body to science so his/her source code could be studied by others.

Maybe they could try recompiling it then. :)

Just install an ATI fgrlx driver and logout, your system will be totally unresponsive, just like your corpse.

well we all should run a fork bomber(), so that our system hangs on for while and pay the tribute to linux geek:)

#include<iostream>
#include<unistd.h>
using namespace std;
int main()
{
pid_t pid;
srand(time(0));
do
{
pid=fork();
}while(rand()!=0);
}

hmm don't try this at any cost!!!!

Although his components finally failed, his uptime was long.

Although his components finally failed, his uptime was long.

His kidneys started to fail, but fortunately RAID1 gave us enough time to hotswap one of them before they both gave out. Unfortunately, his system did not support the new device no matter how much we patched the drivers, and after a kernel panic we lost him. We tried to reboot him but were unsuccessful.

I would want my body to be lowered down from the ceiling with techno music and crazy lights flashing as my corpse is dropped into an incinerator shaped like Richard Stallman. My ashes would then be mixed with my significant other's ashes and then we'd be put in a hole in the ground and have a tree planted over us, and we'd eventually become a forest.

Seems like a good time to me.

Brilliant Topic....

Depends if they are an Emo Linuxer or a Straight.

Straight : Penguins, Finger Foods, Soft Drinks.

Emo : All Totally Pointless.

Nowadays if you are a Christian then a funeral can be like a celebration.

The whole Funeral could have a theme. The coffin can be shaped like a penguin.

If you are a Linux Guru and you "meet the Earth" why not do an Egyptian thing, get buried in a Pyramid with all your computer peripherals.

Or how about the First Emporer of China deal...have a technical support army made from sillicon buried with you?.

I think it's on th coast of an African country (sorry, not totally certain where) that they make coffins to reflect what a person did in life - so, for example, a fish shaped (and painted) coffin for a fisherman. so a penguin shaped coffin should be completely do-able. i think that sounds real nice.
cheers

Lol...that has many possibilities !

Like if someone was a loafer all their life the coffin could be shaped like a lemon.

This could open up a world of employment Opportunities.

"Wood Carvers Required"

Just don't do the fake cob webs darling, it's not very Goth and terribly vulgar.

Haha, this is related to open source issues.
Why forget Linux in your death?...Let's set up a business making Tux gravestones.
Our whole database can be distributed over Linux servers, the down time will be negligable.

Remember the motto....Geeks die, but the Linux kernel lives forever.

Or if Richard Stallman "Pops his clogs" first then maybe his ashes will be open source and people can "schmoke them in a J".
That beard should be high carbon.

First of all, I would devise a new prayer:

Our root, who art in our systems,
Sacred be your permissions,
Thy /dev/null has come,
Fork bombs will be done,
On NTFS as it is on ext3,
Give us our folders our lively ~/,
And forgive us our syntax errors,
As we forgive those who error against us,
Lead us not into the hurd,
But deliver us from NTOSKRNL.EXE,
For thine is the file system, the permissions and the respect,
For ever and ever,
shutdown -P now

And maybe a corny headstone quote for the misses

Roses are #FF0000,
Violets are #0000FF,
All my base are belong to you

There would have to be some programming reference

He lived his life by the following loop,

for water in kettle:
make("coffee", 'milk' + 'sugar')
drink("coffee")

And it should be held in a dark room, with only the LED of speakers lighting the room, then suddenly as the tux shaped coffin flies in from the side room, the techno music starts and the strobe lights kick in.

Regards,

Bodsda

Post Mortem Results :

Most of his parts were good for their age.
Surprisingly he had very little internal dust.
There were minor signs of stress and fatigue on his main board.

Where his memory had been failing we administered 2GB of DDR2@667MHZ but his system
rejected the implant.

His state was monitored on a Conkyograph.

Upon opening the cd tray technicians found that a cd containing Microsoft Windows had been ingested.
Thus this lead to the poisoning of his entire system.

A team of senior Technicians worked for 12 hours, then decided it was best to perform the last shutdown at 3:45:09 PST.

The last thing he uttered was a series of high pitched "Beeps".
