So I installed E17 being impressed with the animated background/icons, and I read that E17 uses very little resources but whenever I activate animated background 100% CPU usage in both the CPUs and the temp goes to 70c :o
If anyone uses E17 can you throw some light on this?

Which background(s) are you using? If you're using a complex background, then you'd have to expect high CPU usage. If you get high usage on a very simple background, then there might be something wrong. You're probably best off posting a message on the enlightenment-users mailing list (http://https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/enlightenment-users)

Enlightenment looks awesome! I enjoy the idea of an animated desktop, too - the possibilities are endless! The high CPU usage seems to be an Ubuntu Jaunty issue actually, but not a bad one. Jaunty runs faster because it doesn't run to the swap file right away, but tries to run as much as possible in RAM. That makes Jaunty faster, but unfortunately it can also make your CPU hotter and keep the fan spinning. They're working on it, and there are several threads about cooling things off.

If it's a really low resource desktop environment you want, have a look at Enlightenment's pretty little sister, LXDE (http://lxde.org). She's not all fancy and highfalutin like Enlightenment is, She's just sweet and simple, adaptable, cheerful and very pretty. And so lightweight and "low maintenance" that some people have accused her of not being a desktop environment at all.

@squaregoldfish

I'm just using the normal ones from here (http://www0.get-e.org/Themes/E17/).

@Robin

Yes the "idea" of animated background and a few youtube videos got me interested in Enlightenment, but I don't really need a lightweight DE on my system. I have a 2.4Ghz C2D and 2GB RAm. Anywayz, the only thing that scares me is the CPU temp which is too high! I hope ubuntu kk fixes this issue so that I can use e17 there!
Thnx for ur replies!
