I have deskcut in my firefox browser but it doesn't seem to work.

I was used to Windows desktop right click/new/shortcut and paste the url there but no dice in Ubuntu?

Also can't drag a bookmark to the desktop.

You can make shortcuts on the desktop that point to webpages:

Right-click on the desktop and select "Create Launcher"
Give it a suitable name
In the Command field, type firefox http://www.ubuntuforums.org (for example)
Click OK

With the page displayed in Firefox, just drag the icon to the left of the address to the desktop.

You can also drag a bookmark to the desktop. You can't drag one of the quick links from the toolbar below the address bar, however.

If your trying to make a launcher to the forum pages it seams to only work if you copy the address and paste it in the launcher command box - after firefox and a space ....don't know why .. I'm on Hardy if that makes any dif.

Thanks to all.

They all work fine. When I was trying to create one, I was failing to change the type to "Location".

Now all is good.
