I'm building my first computer, and I plan on dual-booting Ubuntu and Windows 7. I've found the drivers for my graphics card for both OSes but I can't find the ones for the motherboard. But I can't seem to find motherboard drivers for either. Are drivers for the motherboard necessary because I don't see alot of emphasis put onto them.

They are necessary in Windows for newer hardware because Windows does not have them built-in. This is not the case in Ubuntu (and Linux in general) since chipset drivers are either built in the kernel, or not available at all.

also try to avoid installing drivers from random websites (incuding official homepages of manufacturers) but try to use things like the Hardware detection thingy in ubuntu (System → Administration → Hardware Drivers) or Envy.
