Think I have had three infractions total.

Two of them were reversed on appeal, but not before they resulted in a one week ban.
They were imposed by a moderator who has subsequently been permanently banned from UF.

a)Open atleast 10 threads anywhere in this Forum exept for the Community Cafe games section and post "Lolwut ?!"
b)PM 3 Mods /admins and tell them that they are Ga* and should start getting a Live and use a real os (vista)

Depending on how long your vacation is and the ban (if there is one). Please don't because you would annoy other users on purpose and wouldn't get a punishment out of it.

June 16th, 2009, 09:51 PM
This water cooler is not welcoming to different personalities. The easiest way to get infractions is to speak like you would in real life. Using humor (humor that isn't just "haha this nerd joke about windows/linux is so funny"), sarcasm, joshing, playful teasing, etc will definitely get you an infraction.

Talking about anything remotely interesting like male/female relations, politics, the origin of man, firearms, Russell Brand, current events, the epidemic of increasing breast size in the UK, etc rather than the repeated threads about how great Linux is, how great Windows is, how great every other Linux OS but Ubuntu is, a crappy beta of Google Chrome, Compiz doing stuff that makes everything more difficult and unintuitive, desktop environments, etc. will get a thread deleted at a minimum, maybe a point infraction.

Basically this is a water cooler not at work, but solely at a Silicon Valley/Redmond conference, you know the ones where the one below average attractive woman will be surrounded by 100 dudes kissing her butt? Basically if the topic might actually spark a strong interest or reaction in the people discussing it, it is not allowed. If your reply might remotely provoke a visceral reaction, watch out, chapping bottoms is not allowed.

To not get infractions your personality should be a generic stereotype of Mormon friendliness (friendly wave to the LDS people reading this), kind of like the suburbs but with a cult-like friendly. You can pass if you use the fake country-club friendliness though. Works just as well.

And of course no face-palming or funny GIFs.

+1 All topics of actual interest here are banned, incase someone disagrees with you and you might argue. I remember posting a facepalm on this thread "http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1179583" and I got worried about the reaction from the mods. I feel the comunity cafe should be more lightly moderated, not a free for all, but to allow more interesting topics.

TBH, Im glad there isnt any political/religious or w/e threads here, I hate that kinda crap. but maybe a slighter less heavy handed approach by some mods might help ease some of the tensions here.
