Hi chaps, I just have a simple question about the main page of Ubuntu forums, down the bottom it lets us know who is online, now I know what a user and a guest is but what is a spider?, I am only asking because I am curious.

Can anyone answer my question?.

Have a good one.

A search-engine bot or similar.

It crawls the web looking for new pages to index

Mods: can we have a sticky on this?
PLEASE!??!?!

Its a web engine spider that crawls around indexing the pages it comes across. It has a lot of work to do on the Ubuntu Forums :o.

I am not supprised because of the speed at which the Ubuntu forum page moves at it must be hard for them to keep up.
