As the title says, can we just stick a big screen & keyboard on it, and have a laptop?

With Android devices maybe?

With a nokia n800 (which runs linux), you can ssh -X into it and run programs on another computer.

Reading glasses and a bluetooth keyboard is what I use.

it may be possible to use a USB video adapter with an nokia tablet (n800/n810/the one due out soon). see http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=293686

no one has done it yet, but maybe if you are a programmer you could have a go.

There have been near full-size add-on keyboards for the Palm range of PDAs, so that part should be possible, though I've not seen any add-on displays.

But there are video goggles for iPods, so I don't see why this should be impossible...

The idea, is to use the smart phone as a netbook. It could be very awsome to be able to connect the phone to a large screen and a keyboard so you can code and then compile your source files ;)
A very good feature for programmers.

I found a few articles about the Nokia SU-8W last night. Several pages describe using this with the 5800XM, using the video out connected to a TV or monitor, or using it with the 810 tablet.

Just Google (http://www.google.com/search?q=Nokia+SU-8W+&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=com.ubuntu:en-US:unofficial&client=firefox-a) for it.
