Hi members I joined this group today.I want to install ubuntu 5.10.I downloaded it and unzip it on my hard drive it.currently I am using windows XP.How can I boot ubuntu sitting in windows.Please guide and tell me whole steps.I will be thankful to you.shafiq

Hi and welcome!

What you want is the "Wubi" installer, which will install Ubuntu without modifying your Windows partition. Just download it and run it. If you want to get rid of Ubuntu, you can uninstall it from the Add/Remove Programs control panel in Windows.

My computer specification are low thats why I want to install it.I am doing the same with "wubi".How can I install 5.10 with wybu.There is no option to choose ubuntu version.It is installing 9.04.thanks for reply.

i learned resources for linux don't need to expand exponentially like other OS... so 9.04 would do a great job :)

if you install 5.10 you will not have any support which means no security updates & probably won't have access to the repositories.

If you have a slower computer, you can still use 9.04. When you open Wubi, select "Xubuntu" for the Desktop Environment (bottom left). This uses XFCE instead of Gnome, which is much better for older/slow machines.
