I love playing and listening to music. I want to branch out a bit into making it. I love the old chiptune music, are there any programs that are absolutely beginner-friendly and easy to pick up? It doesn't have to be chiptunes I reckon, any type of video game music would be cool too. Just don't point me out to those big, complicated suites like Rosegarden or LMMS.

If you have experience with trackers, try out MilkyTracker.

And when you say beginner-friendly, what exactly do you mean? Because it could mean a program that doesn't have many features or options, which will limit your creational ability in it.

I don't have any experiances with trackers, but I will try out Milky anyways. Thanks!

By begginer friendly I mean something that I can hop into to learn the basics, then I can later learn more professional ones. Sort of like Game Maker (http://www.yoyogames.com/make) except for music.

(And don't bother trying GM, it's windows only, I'm giving an example for a simple yet powerfull program.)

Ok, got Milky from the aur, tried it out... and couldn't understand a single button, nor could I even find any help.

I don't suppose there's something a bit simpler...?

NotEd might be close.

I couldn't find NotEd in the aur, and a google search just turns up definitions of "noted".

This is annoying. All the trackers are either for windows or incredibally ancient.

I don't know if there is a sid music editor, but it's fun to listen to the old amiga and commodore tunes.

Yea, you're right =] Is sid just a player though?

There may be DOS SID editors availlable. Then you could run them in a DOS emulator. Or dual boot to DOS.

Where else? Wikipedia:

Thanks for the links very much. But I already know Trackers exist, I'm wondering if there are any "beginner-friendly" ones.

This might be useful for you: http://littlesounddj.com/lsd/

It's for the Gameboy, but it should work with an emulator.

There's a learning curve, but there are lots of tutorial videos on youtube.
