View Full Version : Did BayTSP steal Matrix artwork from the Linux community?

Hey guys. I did some random Wiki'ing earlier about copyright infringement and wound up looking up a company that speciales in seeking out and threatening users who download/upload copyrighted material, known as BayTSP. I'm sure some of us have gotten a letter from our ISPs notifying that BayTSP has threatened them at least once in our lifetime. :-({|= Some of us like myself need to pay a little more care on moblock's blocklist configuration. ;)

At any rate, I stumbled on their website here (http://www.baytsp.com/). Anyone recognize that Matrix-like image they used in their Flash presentation on 'Monetization'? Looks to me like someone over at BayTSP stole artwork from the Linux community for company use--tsk tsk. The irony; a company who persecutes people for stealing stuff that isn't theres caught with their pants down for being a hypocrite. If the image wasn't so widely used, one could potentially discover the original owner of the artwork and have them go after BayTSP for violating GNU General Public License laws.

Anyone know of a company to hire that hunts people down over the internet? lol
Bet you it was this guy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYgV2GlsufI) who made their website.

Hi myk02k.

That appears to be made up of numerals only.

The ubuntu matrix screensaver is nicer.

This movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133093/) steals from the linux community too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe there was an older version of xscreensaver that looks strikingly exact with their picture, including only numerals. I installed it a while back to have a screensaver that was able to randomly display code from the Linux kernel as a screensaver.

If I'm wrong, I'll delete this thread as to not be making false accusations for the world to see.

Didn't the movie come first, then the Matrix themes came second?

Off topic, but if anything, I'm in disbelief how Hollywood depicts computers in hacker movies like SWORDFISH. But then again, look at street racing & Fast & Furious movies.

You're wrong.
They're obviously "inspired" by the matrix, but it doesn't look in any way like the old matrix screensaver:

This screensaver is 2D. Wasn't there one screensaver that was 3d? If you look closely at their image in question, it appears as though the vertical objects with the digits are box-shaped just as how the 3D matrix screensaver appeared.

I'll give this thread 24 hours for someone help me find proof. If not, I'll delete it.

AFAIK, there was the text-based "2D" screensaver that I'm showing in my previous post, and the 3D GL Matrix screensaver. Neither of them is numerals only

There is a version that use numerals, but not for linux.
It is strikingly similar.

I believe someone worked very hard to design that webpage.

Good call myk02k.

The falling green numbers used in the matrix (and subsequent screen savers) was copied from the opening credits of Ghost in the shell. (I'm watching it in the corner of my screen now).

The numerals appear to drop in hoizontal lines.
