View Full Version : [ubuntu] Audio CD playback choppy / dropouts

June 12th, 2009, 10:46 AM
Linux Noob with audio experience:

Recent fresh install of Jaunty on Dell Inspiron 1501 notebook.

All audio files play fine in all players:
(Amarok/ Banshee / Rhythmbox / VLC etc.)

DVD movie disk plays fine in Movie Player after many extra dependencies installed.

Final Problem:
Audio CD plays fine with Movie Player but with Banshee and Rhythmbox there are regular audio drop outs - every 5-10 seconds or so, coinciding with the disk spinning up to speed, then slowing down.

Should the CD be reading at a more-or less constant speed?
Do I need to increase a buffer size somewhere?

Can anyone help with this problem, please?

I am having the same problem when playing CDs in Rhythm Box. Choppy and drops out.

Lucid, 64bits,

Playing from HD is fine.
