I want to access some news server/ usenet. I called my ISP to ask the news server address, but they told me that they (the isp) dont have any news server. Is there any public news server that I could use so I could access news:alt.os.linux.debian :)

Thanks so much :)

Try Gmane: news.gmane.org.

Also Google for free news server and you should get some helpful links.

In this you get what you pay for, free but limited or pay for the access and get more features/groups.

Point your news reader to news.readfreenews.net. It carries alt.os.linux.debian AND alt.os.linux.ubuntu among many other newsgroups.

URL is: http://www.readfreenews.com/

I found this really cool website that lists the usenet servers by certain criteria such as speed, whether u are allowed to post or not etc. http://freenews.maxbaud.net/ just visit that link and u can get free news server out there on the net and nothing better to read it with than a free programme like thunderbird and from there u can read all kinds of news. U can also get mail from your gmail account or any other email that allow u pop access. The news server that I use (totally free and u are allowed to post) is this one "aioe.cjb.net." Good luck and happy usenetting!!!

Most free usenet servers don't allow posting. This one does its a bit slow and you are limited to how many posts you can make a day.
