View Full Version : [ubuntu] Make Ubuntu 9.04 appear like gOS

June 12th, 2009, 12:01 AM

I would like to make my ubuntu 9.04 desktop look like gOS (including icons). I also would like the scroll bar near the bottom. I have tried many help tutorials showing me how to do this but they won't work. Here http://www.thinkgos.com/gos/ you can find the website to gOS website. Well I already installed the gadgets application to my computer . It works. I just mainly want the icons and theme and application bar gOS has. The reason I will not switch to gOS is because ubuntu is highly more updated and more upkeep with updates. I believe gOS is update but just not as regularly as ubuntu. Ubuntu is highly maintained which I like. So if anyone could help me that would be great.

Those are Screenlets....

Go to Gnome-look.org

or Youtube see a video on screenlets as well

there are desklets as well also keep in mind they use graphics card a cpu....

may want to look into conky great low preformance....

If your not worried about cpu usage and graphics then look into compiz setup...

There are a bunch of window effects to make your desktop user friendly....

good luck,,

I don't think gOS uses Gnome, but rather Enlightenment as its desktop environment.

There could be a gtk port of whatever the E17 gOS theme is somewhere though.

Here's one: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/gOS+Theme?content=80352

This version was called gOS V2 Rocket, and was completely rewritten and now based on the GNOME window manager, a built in Compositing window manager, and the Avant Window Navigator[4].

This is an Operating System based off of Ubuntu 7.10 written in Enlightment was intended to compete with Windows OS.... Was rewritten in Gnome window manager for Everex's new CloudBook, the gBook laptop, and a new, second version of the gPC, the "encore"

Netbook edition beta gOS 3.0 Gadgets final with netbook launcher beta Unknown 2008-10-22 (beta) Netbooks and Nettops Hardy Heron (8.04.1) The free netbook launcher can be installed on top of regular gOS 3.0. GNOME for gOS 3 a special Netbook application Launcher is released, although it is still in beta, and is developed independently from Good OS. With it you can switch between a Netbook launcher or the classic gOS desktop. [39]

Really this is a waste of time it was based off of Ubuntu and is nearly always behind in updates The lastest version is based off of 8.04 Hardy....

I like Linux Mint better...
